Moving Abroad
This would be major step and unlikely to
be undertaken unless there were other
reasons as well as just tax saving.
Moving abroad means you no longer have
to pay income or capital gains tax, but
remain liable for inheritance tax.
It can be possible to change your
domicile and so avoid tax but you need
very special reasons to do so. Not least
of all do you really want to live abroad
and die abroad? Many people change there
mind and return to the UK before they
die thus creating enormous problems.
If you have major family ties abroad it
could be for you but take advice first.
Choosing the right country is also
important - not much point moving to a
country with worse tax rules than ours.
Italy
has no Inheritance Tax at them moment
but this is likely to change. France and
particularly Spain can be very expensive
places to die.
Australia is about the only place free
of the Inheritance Tax curse.
